ORGANIZATION: Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton and Area

EDPY mentoring course that is offered through the U of A for Credit. It is a full year course where there is 8 classes/session of theory and then you would complete 30 mentoring hours to receive your 3 credits- this can be used towards a current relationship as well. Some of the topics could include:

· The Ethics of mentoring

· Mentoring Children with Learning Disorders & ADHD

· Mentoring Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

· Mentoring Children with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

· Mentoring Indigenous Youth

· Mentoring Refugee youth

· Closure of Mentoring Relationships

· Strength Based Mentoring

The course includes:

-eight modules offered on the Edmonton Campus or through distance education between September and December;

-a minimum of 30 hours spent mentoring a child through a local mentoring agency during the Fall and Winter terms; and

-guidance from an experienced mentor to guide the student through the experience.

Modules are offered either face-to-face in the evenings on Thursday nights 5pm to 8pm on the University of Alberta Edmonton Campus, or online (eight modules that students work through on their own time with the help of an instructor) for students across Alberta.

This course is credit/non-credit open to students of all faculties. No prerequisites are required.

The Boys & Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area (BGCBigs) is a charitable non-profit organization working to provide safe places and positive mentoring relationships for children & youth in our community. We are the amalgamation of two internationally recognized child serving organizations; Boys & Girls Clubs and Big Brothers Big Sisters. By combining the concepts of both, BGCBigs delivers programs that address the physical, emotional, academic and overall wellness of children and youth.
