The Audubon Society of Western PA (ASWP) connects people to nature through education programs and conservation engagement. Beechwood Farms in Fox Chapel is one of our nature reserves. At Beechwood we have a Nature Store, the Audubon Center for Native Plants, a nature play area for kids, gardens and trails, and facilities for environmental education programs. We are looking for more volunteers to help with the gardens and trails. As a Land Steward volunteer you will be helping us connect people to nature by doing these activities:
The overall purpose is to regularly monitor, maintain, and enhance Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve for the preservation of open space, natural and unique features, wildlife habitat, and ecological diversity. Even though we are a nature reserve we do regular maintenance to keep invasive species under control and provide a user-friendly environment.
We are looking for volunteers to help us maintain our gardens, seven of which are rain gardens. Tasks include pulling invasive plants, watering, pruning, and planting natives. Tools, gloves, and training will be provided.
