About

RESPONSE of Suffolk County, Inc. is a 24-hour hotline (631-751-7500). We have been the caring voice on the other end of the phone for over 30 years. We are a private, not-for-profit, community-based agency, and in addition to our free, confidential and anonymous telephone counseling, the hotline offers a current computerized information and referral program connecting callers with the most appropriate community resources to meet their needs.

As a hotline/support line telephone crisis counselor, volunteers learn to engage callers who are in crisis, build trust, handle emergency situations (eg calls regarding suicide, domestic violence, runaways, etc.) and make referrals to community resources. To do this they acquire active listening skills by attending our training program, as well as additional volunteer workshops.
