We work with young adults with a wide range of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, such as Autism. Once highschool ends, many students move on to a Transition School, but what happens after that? Many young adults with I/DD move into foster or group homes while others stay with their families, but without the daily routine of school, it can be isolating and hard to make new friends. When this happens, the community loses out.
Griffin's Place was born from seeing how daily interaction with others, a strong social network, and challenging activities brought about HUGE changes in those struggling with I/DD and the knowledge that these things are not available to everyone, due to income. Griffin's Place aims to change that! We want to make everything accessible to everyone and to build a community that will support each other.
Right now, we hold events in the community at different locations and also meet up at free community events, helping to create a safe space for everyone to enjoy new experiences, meet new people, and make friends! It can be difficult to be social after highschool ends, and this is where Griffin's Place comes in!
But we need help. These programs can be costly and we would LOVE more support ourselves---help us with fundraising and you will be able to see the difference you can make almost immediately! You can visit our website at griffinsplace.com to see what kind of events we are currently involved in.

About GRIFFINS PLACE
Location:
PO BOX 1359, HILLSBORO, OR 97123, US
Mission Statement
Empowering young adults with intellectual / developmental disabilities with opportunities to engage in community activities.
Description
We are a Washington County group that focuses on young adults, mainly ages 14-25, with intellectual/developmental disabilities, working to help them make the transition into adulthood. We both create unique events that are designed to support those with disabilities and invite the general community to join us, or go to public events as a group, as to encourage independence. We actively seek to help young adults form a community and make friendships, as it can be very isolating for people with disabilities after they leave school or their family home.
