Great Lakes Loves Volunteers!

Great Lakes Caring Hospice, a leading care provider in the Midwest, is looking to add volunteers to our team. We are searching for volunteers who are passionate about making a difference, self-motivated, brimming with creativity and up for a challenge.

Providing end of life care for patients and families is no easy task. Volunteers will learn to embrace the hospice philosophy as they navigate end of life care. Companion volunteers offer friendly visits and socialization to Hospice patients at the bedside, and offer caregivers a much needed break by providing respite support.

Each patent is unique, and visits vary greatly. One volunteer might sit vigil at the bedside of his patient just holding her hand. Another volunteer might share a love for building model airplanes with his patient and set out to build one last plane. And yet another might meet family members in the home or at the bedside, and listen to them recount stories of their loved one’s golden years.

Administrative volunteers help with various office and clerical projects within our office. Pet Therapy volunteers bring their certified therapy dogs to visit patients in nursing home facilities. Opportunities are also available for volunteers interested in sharing music or photography, helping with various events, recording patients’ life stories, or donating crafts.

Hours are flexible, and include weekdays, evenings, or weekends. Most volunteers spend 1-2 hours per week visiting assigned patients, or offer 2-4 hours per week of work in the office.
