Position Summary:

The Disability Allies (DA) is dedicated to providing sports and recreation programs that connect young adults and children with and without disabilities. The Sports Instructor is a part time volunteer position that involves a commitment of a few hours a week.. The sports instructor, will provide expert training for athletes with special needs. The title of the position is subject to change before being hired.

Responsibilities:

The sports instructor, will provide expert training for athletes with special needs. The Sports Instructor will assist with the following tasks:

  • Conduct classes that are fun, structured and educational in a way that keeps all participant’s activities safe at all times during the class
  • Stay informed of program offerings, session dates, pricing, and make-up policy
  • Build rapport with participant’s parents to inform them of their child’s progress, encouraging long-term participation in the program
  • Take attendance regularly at the start of every class
  • Set-up, breakdown and store the equipment necessary to run specific classes
  • May be involved in planning activities and developing the class schedule

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally
  • Ability to connect with others and develop relationships
  • Committed to the mission of serving young adults with disabilities
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and confidential information

About the Disability Allies:

The purpose of the Disability Allies is to provide sports and recreation programs that connect young adults and children with and without disabilities. During our program we pair each individual up with a mentor. The job of the mentor is to help engage participants in the activities.
