Position Summary:

The Disability Allies (DA) is dedicated to providing a social and learning environment for young adults and children with disabilities. The Teaching Assistant is a part time volunteer position that involves a commitment of a few hours a week. The Teaching Assistant will work with the teacher to promote interactive and structured learning for students with disabilities.

Responsibilities:

The Teaching Assistant will work with the teacher to promote interactive and structured learning for students with disabilities. The Teaching Assistant will assist the Teacher with the following tasks:

• Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups
• Enforce school and class rules to help teach students proper behavior
• Help teachers with recordkeeping, such as tracking attendance and calculating grades
• Help students with social disorders improve their communication skills

Qualifications & Competencies:

• Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
• Must be able to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
• Ability to connect with others and develop relationships
• Committed to the mission of serving young adults with disabilities
• Ability to perform several tasks concurrently
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Ability to maintain detailed records and confidential information

The Disability Allies (DA) is dedicated to providing a social and learning environment for young adults and children with disabilities. Students are paired up with mentors who help them learn in fun and structured environment. Our mentors help them with their social skills, help develop a core academic curriculum and reinforce learning strategies that were taught in school.
