Sports for the Mind - the hardest FUN you'll ever have! Through our partnership with Salem Community College and Cumberland County College, our FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge grades 7-8) and FRC ( FIRST Robotics Challenge grades 9-12) teams are provided workshop space, and high school students are able to receive college credit for participation. SJR emphasizes student led teams, and during off-season (May through August) they work on projects that benefit members of the community (such as providing STEM camp experiences to underserved and underrepresented youth. Students have also designed and built sports equipment for Delaware Easter Seals for use by handicapped individuals who would otherwise not be able to participate in sporting events.

We are looking for adults to work as volunteer coaches and mentors in our Jr. FLL, FLL, FTC, and FRC FIRST(r) Robotics programs. Information on the various levels can be found by visiting, and volunteer opportunities can be found at

Volunteers work with our students to design, build, and program robots for competition and help students solve real-world problems. Mentors come from all professions and can be technical mentors with building and engineering skills, business people who teach about business plans, marketers who help promote our teams, or web experts who partner with us to develop websites and use social media.
