Would you love to help preschool aged children to grow their pre-literacy skills so they’re ready for kindergarten? Are you creative, flexible, and excel in dynamic environments where building relationships is the key to success? If your answers are yes, consider joining the largest AmeriCorps tutoring program in the country and make a difference in the lives of preschool-aged students! We’ll provide training so no prior tutoring, formal education experience, or experience with children is necessary. In addition to extensive training, tutors will receive support from trained coaches. Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents, and retirees. Positions are filling fast so apply today!

-Family Childcare Preschool Literacy Tutors travel to multiple licensed family child care providers’ homes in either Minneapolis or St. Paul to provide early literacy support to preschool-aged children in preparation for kindergarten. At each family childcare visit, tutors conduct a 90 minute Reading Corps session in order to provide supplemental literacy skill development for children. Tutors will provide intentional, meaningful and fun literacy instruction to improve the early literacy skills of children ages 2 - 5 . Tutors will give children the opportunity to talk, read, write and play every day using early literacy best practices. Tutors are also trained and supported to conduct quick and easy literacy assessments and record student progress in an online data system. Tutors meet with a literacy coach as well as the childcare provider regularly to review student data and make decisions to better meet each student’s needs. Tutors will maintain confidentiality of all student data.

-Tutors will attend required Reading Corps sponsored trainings to learn the literacy strategies, and will receive the support of a coach in order to implement the strategies successfully. Family childcare literacy tutors are required to attend monthly evening training sessions with their childcare providers.

-In addition, tutors will organize and attend activities such as family nights and other site-specific events.
