ORGANIZATION: Dallas Pets Alive!

Department and/or Team: Adoptions

Reports to: Adoption Counselor Lead and Adoptions Director.

Works with: Will correspond with potential adoptive families, adoption hotline volunteers, other adoption team volunteers, foster families, and foster team volunteers on regular basis. Correspondence with alumni team volunteers on a semi-regular basis will be required. Correspondence with other team volunteers will take place as needed.

Description of Role: This volunteer will see adoption applications through from initial review to finalization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing adoption applications for approval.
  • Submitting preliminary approval email to applicant after review.
  • Working with landlord and vet check volunteers to fully approve application.
  • Sending complete approval/meet and greet email to potential applicant and foster family.
  • Ensuring that fosters and applicants get into contact and are proceeding with process.
  • Following up with adopter after the home visit takes place.
  • Submitting contracts to applicants and completing adoption contract speeches.
  • Forwarding to Adoptions Finalization Liaison to send final "Congrats" email.

Skills/Qualifications Needed:

  • Regular phone access and proficiency with use of email (Gmail will be utilized).
  • Ability to work virtually (phone, email) on a regular basis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to maintain professional level correspondence at all times.
  • Strong sense of organization.
  • Record-keeping skills.

Time Commitment: Approximately 3-5 hours per week.

OUR APPROACH

Our organization is run mostly by volunteers, and all of our pets are housed by dedicated foster families throughout North Texas.

We rescue and help the healthy and treatable pets at greatest risk for euthanasia at our partner shelters. We also provide assistance and resources to pet owners having problems so significant that they need to surrender their pets to a shelter.

In our rescue program, we focus on:

  • Rescuing healthy and treatable pets at North Texas shelters at the greatest risk of being euthanized
  • Reducing owner surrender through our Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS) program
  • Opening kennel space by transporting pets to partners in the U.S. and Canada in need of adoptable animals
  • Challenging the way our community views rescue animals. We believe that adoption is not only right thing to do but THE thing to do!

*At this time, we do not accept court-ordered service hours nor track community service hours.

*Our organization does not currently have an established office location, however in March 2023 DPA opened up an Adoption Container.
