Our Maker VISTA Project is focused on transforming education for youth disadvantaged by poverty. As a Project Coordinator, your work onsite will impact the organization and greater community through partnership development, volunteer facilitation, community building, resource creation, educator training, and much more. Maker Ed's mission is to create more opportunities for all young people to develop confidence, creativity, and interest in learning as a whole through making.

Maker Ed supports its VISTA members through preservice to post-service with on-going training and development, opportunity exposure within the national Maker VISTA community and larger Maker Movement. From the beginning to the end, you will receive training, become a member of the Maker VISTA community, and have a platform to succeed. VISTA members receive federally sponsored benefits and are eligible for an education award upon completion of service.

Mission Statement

The Maker Education Initiative’s mission is to create more opportunities for all young people to develop confidence, creativity, and interest in science, technology, engineering, math, art, and learning as a whole through making.

Description

In May 2012, Maker Ed was formed in response to President Obama’s "Educate to Innovate" campaign to move American students from the middle to the top of the pack in science and math achievement over the next decade. Maker Ed plays a national leadership role in developing a maker network of institutions, youth serving organizations, statewide afterschool networks, corporations, foundations, and makers seeking to accelerate and deepen the Maker Movement.

Maker Ed is a non-profit organization, based in Oakland, CA, and works with educators and organizations nationwide to provide training, support, resources, and community-building efforts in order to facilitate meaningful making and learning experiences with youth.
