Refugee youth possess limitless talents bounded by unique challenges.

Approximately 400 new refugee students enter the Dallas Independent School District each year, however, the high school graduation rate for these students is less than 35% making the drop-out rate for them the highest among immigrant populations enrolled in the district. Refugee Services of Texas’ newly developed Refugee Youth Program (RYP) aims not only to help boost these numbers, but to empower refugee youth in all aspects of life through guidance and mentorship. In addition to Mentor-matching, RST-Dallas assists newly arrived refugee youth (aged 10-17) in becoming better adjusted and engaged in their new communities. Weekly after school sports activities are just one of a wide range of programming available to our littlest of clients and we would love your help!

We are in need of a new RST Youth Soccer Coach to lead weekly workshops with drills for refugee youth who have expressed interest in improving their soccer skills and abilities.

In the past, these workshops have been held twice weekly on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 - 6:00pm, though days may depend on the availability of the Raindrop Foundation Community Center located in Richardson on E Collins Blvd. Refugee youth are driven by program staff and volunteers. Ages and skills will vary.

What to expect:

Volunteering with the RST Youth Program requires an application and background check, an informal interview, and a volunteer orientation. Volunteers are also expected to understand and commit to follow RST policies and procedures outlined in the RST Youth Mentor/Program Handbook and agreements.

English levels also vary but do of course improve over time, and even more quickly with angagement and the help of our Volunteers.
