Overview
This is an AmeriCorps position.
The AmeriCorps member will serve primarily with Seattle Audubon education staff, leading environmental education programming for youth in the Seattle area. The member will provide support for Seattle Audubon's elementary school program, Finding Urban Nature (FUN), through adult volunteer recruitment and training, and through teaching environmental education lessons to elementary school students. The member will also support Seattle Audubon's teen program, Young Birders, which fosters a strong learning community for passionate young naturalists. Additional duties may include: community education outreach, including presentations at school Science Nights and other local events where we engage the public using our unique education materials; leading an after school science enrichment program; and assisting with toddler story hours and family programming.
Skills and Qualifications
- Requires BA/BS from an accredited university
- Experience working with children and/or teens in formal or informal education settings
- Ability to work with diverse groups of children, teens, and adults
- Strong writing skills
- Group management skills
- Energy and desire to inspire conservation action in Seattle communities
