Large DG Bed
Larger of two beds where DG will be installed

Splash Pad Park's GRAND CREW ordinarily maintains the community's California Native Plant Garden but this is a special 2-day project during which we'll be installing decomposed granite walkways in two locations.

This is mostly physically demanding work that involves loading and transporting wheelbarrows full of base rock and DG; then distributing, wetting and compacting it. We'd especially appreciate volunteers with relevant experience but, on the other hand, if you want to learn how it's done, this is your perfect opportunity.

If you can help us out, please email us at info@splashpad.org and specify which days and approximately how many hours you'd be available.

To ensure that we have enough gloves, tools, and water, your RSVP is essential.

About SplashPad.org

Location:

3801 Balfour Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610, US

Mission Statement

SplashPad.org's primary mission is to help maintain the neighborhood park that was designed by award-winning Landscape Architect Walter Hood and also to serve as an advocate on its behalf. Since we are part of a much larger community, we also continue to support and advocate on behalf of the adjacent commercial district.

Description

SplashPad.org was founded in late 1999 with the express purpose of convincing the City of Oakland to dramatically improve a blighted park that was never intended for public use. The new park opened in 2003 as the home for the Grand Lake Farmers Market and as the centerpiece for a commercial district that has experienced a remarkable revival in the ensuing years.

Just prior to the park's opening, community volunteers planted a large California Native Plant Garden that we have continued to maintain and more recently, to expand. While this our major focus, we also assist to some extent with maintenance throughout the park.

SplashPad.org is a registered non-profit thanks to a fiscal sponsorship from the Friends of Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation.
