We seek volunteer groups of 4-6 people to help us prepare, serve, and clean up after a weekly Family Night meal on Tuesday nights. Following dinner, adults and kids head to support groups that address the needs of families impacted by cancer.
Gilda's Family Night dinners are a popular way for small groups to volunteer at the clubhouse. Here are the details ---
Because of the size of our kitchen work space, you'll want to keep your group to no more than 6. We ask that groups are here b y 4pm. We always have a longtime volunteer here with you throughout the evening, to show you where things are, etc. Out kitchen is wonderfully outfitted and has every serving spoon, pot, measuring cup, etc available. Generally, groups plan their own menu and bring their own groceries. We do have a small grocery budget (donated by Fresh Madison Market) and can order groceries for you if that's a challenge. We have staples such as seasonings, olive oil, Pam spray, foil, milk, butter, coffee, etc on hand.
Dinner is served buffet style for up to 80 people a t 5:30pm. We will have the dining tables and buffet set up for you prior to your arrival. After dinner, a t 6pm, families bus their own table areas and break out to support groups throughout the clubhouse. Clean up is nearly always done b y 6:30pm.
Some menu ideas are: salad bar, Mexican, Italian, baked potato bar, breakfast-for- dinner, soup-and-sandwiches, etc. I encourage you to think about your own family favorites. We tend toward fresh, rather than processed, and always have a vegetarian option. We also usually have some component of fresh salad, or fresh fruit or veggie tray (s). Just like at home, sometimes we have dessert and sometimes we have fruit. We generally serve about 70-75 people, but don't let that number scare you, as that includes a fair number of kids. If your menu seems a bit 'sophisticated', we try to have PB&J or a simple (smallish amount) of mac and cheese for the kids.
