Soar with the Eagles Professional GED/HSE Tutors, Inc. is a year-old, highly successful 501(c)(3) that provides affordable tutoring to GED students. Our volunteer tutors meet one-on-one with students at times and in public locations convenient to both student and tutor, and for $10/month the student receives as many hours of tutoring as possible (at least two hours per week). In our first year we have helped 14 GED students graduate, and many others pass at least one of the four required exams to graduate.

SWTE started with seed money from an inheritance but is rapidly running out of funds. We have written grant proposals that have either been rejected or are still under consideration. We have a gofundme site that brings in $200-$300 per month. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by December 2016 so that our volunteer administrative team can be compensated and more tutors can be paid to travel to the Pascua Yaqui reservation to work with the GED students out there. We also want a localized center of operation that can serve as our main administrative site as well as an option for tutors to meet with their students.

The grant research assistant we are looking for has time - and prefereably some experience - to explore grant makers whose funding preferences align with our mission. SWTE has a Guidestar profile for granters (and the general public) to view for more information on our vision, mission, successes, and needs.

Mission Statement

Soar with the Eagles Professional GED/HSE Tutors, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of trained tutors who provide affordable, individualized academic tutoring to GED students to reverse the declining GED graduation rate and to raise the level of adult education and socioeconomic status within the Tucson community.

Description

Our tutors meet one-on-one in public venues (primarily libraries, Pima College libraries, coffee shops, etc.) with GED students to provide individualized support and instruction to help students pass the four GED exams. Weekly reports documenting students' progress are submitted to the director on a weekly basis.
