Patients following surgery!
You could not guess by looking , these three boys were near death from a preventable disease two weeks before. Rheumatic Heart Disease is preventable, but there are over 2000 waiting for surgery in Rwanda!

Social Media plays a role for fundraising, and connecting for network building. Team Heart seeks a creative and detail-oriented virtual volunteer to design a social media campaign to increase awareness and impact for campaigns for specific events and awareness of heart disease in Rwanda, in sub-saharan Africa.

Specifically Team Heart is engaged in a partnership with local stakeholders to increase access to improved cardiac care in the community to answer a shortage of specialist in country while the country expands health care providers through an initiative led by the Ministry of Health.

This opportunity will help provide Team Heart support for ongoing efforts to increase access to specialized cardiac care in Rwanda by creating a valuable online presence on Twitter, TikTok, and Facebook.
We invite you to play a major role in our program to raise awareness and prevention, for delivering life-saving care in Rwanda to children and teens suffering from Rheumatic Heart Disease, a disease of untreated strep throat in children and poverty.

Volunteers should have 3+ years of social media experience and be willing to participate in a 1-hour Zoom orientation. Social media guidelines will be provided. The project commitment for six months- one year would be wonderful. Content design and online post-coordination assistance are also needed.

Bring your marketing and social media experiences and help grow awareness of heart disease prevention and projects supporting the work in Rwanda.

This could be an opportunity for credit if volunteer hours are monitored as a requirement for volunteer work for a university course.

About Team Heart, Inc.

Location:

Mission Statement

Our mission is to improve access to cardiac care in Rwanda. That includes working to establish a sustainable regional center of excellence in cardiac care in Kigali. To prevent advanced rheumatic heart disease through a combined effort of surveillance, prevention, education and early intervention as an example of effective countrywide intervention against rheumatic heart disease that can inspire replication in sub-Saharan Africa.

Description

TeamHeart is a volunteer organization based in New England, founded in 2007 to provide surgical intervention for young adults and adolescents suffering from critical rheumatic heart disease. Early in the process, we realized we could be a catalyst to support and stimulate a program to provide prevention and early intervention while helping to build a program in cardiac surgery. Our program has evolved into a comprehensive plan to address all aspects of rheumatic heart disease in partnership with our Rwandan colleagues.

In addition to providing surgical intervention to those selected for our surgical trips, the diagnostic screening of patients is completed by our cardiology team with an emphasis on knowledge and skill transfer. Initial testing, evaluation, and follow-up are completed in the country by our Rwandan colleagues as partners.

Highly trained professionals in medicine, nursing, and support services are needed to provide mentorship, skill transfer, and the safest care possible travel to support the work or connect through technology. Each traveling medical volunteer raises funds or pays for travel and donates vacation time. Through a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health, our activities are collaborative and work with the local team.
