Come work with horses, in our Non-Profit to help children and join a fun community of caring people. Every Saturday 10am - 2pm.
In this era of "nature deficit" , giving people a chance to experience nature, bond with healthy animals, learn true trust and discover their strengths, is truly the ultimate gift of a lifetime. All training provided.
Leave a Trail provides 1/2 hour horse back riding sessions to children with special needs. We need help with basic horse grooming prior to the classes (no experience necessary, volunteers will receive instruction) and we need 'side-walkers'. Side-Walkers walk along-side the horse while the child is riding, providing support and encouragement, and following the lead of the instructor who is leading the lesson.
Volunteer your time to:
- Assist with special needs riding classes, by side-walking or leading horses.
- Assist with Leave a Trail administrative and office tasks.
- Help organize fundraising and outreach events.

Description
Leave a Trail seeks to address a lack of access to equine therapy in local mainstream psychotherapy and healing programs. Equine therapies, and Hippotherapy (therapeutic use of horses to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input), are both well-respected treatments for Autism, and their benefits are now increasingly recognized as treating a much wider array of therapy needs.
Seeking to meet the demand for these programs, a passionate group of horse lovers and professionals joined forces, working to provide safe, fun and affordable equine therapy programs in a beautiful setting. With many of the large horse ranches on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula facing closure, Leave a Trail has partnered with Chaparral Ranch to secure a unique, healing setting, surrounded with open space land for therapeutic riding.
