Host Committee Member ~ SF Day Labor Program and Women’s Collective

The San Francisco Day Labor Program and Women’s Collective (DLP/WC) is a grassroots-organized program deeply rooted in the community with strong support of key stakeholders. For over 20 years, the DLP/WC has been extremely successful at uniting, empowering, and organizing immigrant workers for dignified work and fair wages in San Francisco. Workers are organized in two collectives, one of men and one of women, to build collective power, develop skills, and operate a shared business.

Members of the collectives work together to eradicate the injustices that affect day laborers and domestic workers, fostering an organized environment where all workers can build their dignity, power and leadership. Members share a vision of a community where day laborers and domestic workers have the same opportunities and rights than any other worker. They accomplish this by offering each other opportunities to learn, work and participate in the movement of immigrant and domestic workers. The collectives are co-founders and leaders in the National Day Labor Organizing Network, National Domestic Workers Alliance, Progressive Workers Alliance, California Domestic Workers Coalition, Jobs with Justice, San Francisco Rising, among others.

In 2015, the DLP/WC started an exciting reorganization process with the objective of establishing a more sustainable and scalable model that enhances the impact of the program in the lives of immigrant workers.

The DLP/WC is looking for Host Committee Members for the upcoming 25th Anniversary Gala this October. This volunteer works with a committed group of fundraising and event planning professionals. The ideal candidate considers one’s self an extrovert, loves social occasions, has experience in PR and/or Fundraising and is comfortable asking their individuals in their vast network for favors.

Position Objective: This position assists with fundraising and event planning efforts of the Host Committee for the upcoming 25th Anniversary Gala this November.

This position is part of a volunteer team that supports the fundraising initiatives of the Day Labor Program and Women’s Collective. It is directed to transforming the lives of low-wage immigrant workers at a personal level, in order to develop leaders who can promote the dignity of their work and transform the industries in which they work.

Anniversary Event: La QuinceaƱera

It has been 15 years since we started this work and is a great accomplishment to have reached this point. We have helped many people throughout the years and we want to both celebrate and raise money so that we can continue helping people. With this event, we want to fundraise $30,000-$50,000 to strengthen and expand the impact of La Collective programming in the lives of immigrant workers.

Objective

Our principal objective is to raise money towards the launch of a skills development initiative, that will allow La Colectiva's women discover and develop new skills and be able to find new jobs that will allow them to age with dignity. We also want to promote La Colectiva's brand to new SF employers as well as celebrate and recognize the path of La Colectiva during all these years.

It is important to understand that this event is not only a celebration for members of La Colectiva, but also a recruitment event to capture those professionals newly arrived to San Francisco, specially Tech workers between 21 and 40 years old (both men and women) who can become new employers for our women.

Message

Our message will be "Aging with dignity" and will be targeted towards all those women that are getting older and can't continue working cleaning related jobs. This money will go towards their development so that they can find other jobs.
