Friends for Youth is seeking caring, positive adults to invest in enhancing the success of teens just entering high school. These students have lacked the opportunities they have needed to thrive and are at-risk for academic failure and negative behaviors. However with a mentor who has successfully made their way in the world, they gain the confidence and tools to reach their potential!

Launching August 2016, CONNECT will take place at Sequoia High School in Redwood City and be supported by mentoring staff and a fun and supportive mentoring environment.

The mentoring ratio will be one adult to four students, and will focus on topics the youth need and want to understand such as:

  • Discovering their interests and strengths
  • Building positive connections
  • Managing time and priorities
  • Avoiding risky behaviors
  • Overcoming obstacles
  • Creating career pathways
  • ...and other topics that will enhance their success in school and in life

Mentors will be screened, trained and supported by Friends for Youth, a non-profit with an excellent track record of creating successful mentoring relationships. Students will elect to participate, so they will be open and looking forward to learning from their mentors.

The initial commitment is about 2 hours every week or twice a month for one school year (August - June). Attending occasional weekday or weekend field trips will be appreciated but not required. The following mentoring sessions will be available:

Tuesdays & Wednesdays starting August 30 th & 31 st

Session 1
