NeighborWalks is a collaborative community walking program desinged and led by volunteers. The program is a collaborative project of AARP Colorado. The goal of NeighborWalks is to get more people walking every day for health, transportation, environment, and community.
AARP NeighborWalks volunteers are appointed and trained AARP volunteers wo bring their passion for walking, connecting and helth towards the goal of creating age friendly and livable communities. Volunteer are responsible for developing and leading walks around the city and in their own neighborhoods. There are a variety of roles available: Walk Coordinator to create the walk, assist with promotion, greet and engage with walk participants, lead the walk and complete a summary of the walk. Sweeps assist with waivers and sign in, greet and engage with participants and ensure inclusion by stying in the back of the walk to ensure no walker is left behind. Walk Lead & Understudy will assis with sign in, greet and engage with participants, know the walk route and lead the walk if Coordinator isn't able to attend the walk. Floats will assis with sign in and engage with participants and floats in the middle of the walk, support the walk lead and encourage pedestrians.
