Advocates for Children also known as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a non-profit agency that serves Dependent and Neglected children in the 18th Judicial District. CASAs are court appointed volunteers who donate their time to advocate for children in the Dependent and Neglect courtroom. Advocates for Children were able to provide CASA volunteers for over 800 children during this past year. However, there are still hundreds more who are lost, alone, and scared; without an advocate to help them find their voice.

A CASA is the voice in court for abused and neglected children. After extensive training, CASA volunteers are appointed by the courts to work with the other professionals on the case to determine the best interest of the child. Our volunteers spend time with the children weekly, talk with individuals such as parents, foster parents, and teachers involved in the child's life, and serve as a consistent and caring adult during this chaotic time. The CASA volunteer reports their observations and recommendations to the judge, who uses this information to make decisions about where that child should live and what kinds of services and treatment plans are needed. CASA volunteers also help connect families to community resources and provide their child with opportunities to participate in fun actives that can help them feel like a normal kid again.

CASAs must be 21 years or older, and willing to commit 10 hours of their time each month for the duration of a case (12-18 months). Volunteers must attend 30 hours of training in order to be sworn in by the court to serve as a CASA. Please contact us at (303) 695-0803 for more information or any questions you might have!
