Children from throughout the valley come to learn life skills such as communication, emotional regulation, and problem-solving utilizing equine assisted therapy, therapeutic riding, and horticultural therapy. Volunteers will be working both with the children and with the horses. The groups meet every Monday to Friday 4:30-6:30PM and Saturdays 8:00-2:00.

Helping You Connect to Yourself and Others in a Mindful Way. Hunkapi is the horse program with heart that has a name you will never forget. Hunkapi, pronounced Hoon-KAH-pee, is a Native American word that means "I am related to everyone." Our programs-- which include therapeutic riding programs and equine-assisted psychotherapy --emphasize learning about relationships with yourself and others. Hunkapi was originally founded as a research program in 1996. When compared to other sports, the research showed that horseback riding lessons were the most positive intervention for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism. The positive results prompted the launching of Hunkapi as a community outreach program in 1999. Today, the benefits of Hunkapi are experienced by many ages three and up, with behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs.
