The LearningWorks AIMS HIGH AmeriCorps program offers members a variety of opportunities to impact school and student achievement in positions that include developing or expanding tutoring, mentoring and enrichment programs in struggling schools in Maine, through direct educational service to students. LW AIMS HIGH is a school turnaround initiative where members provide direct support to students and build capacity to bring individuals and community members into schools to improve student achievement.

All AIMS HIGH members support schools and individual students by engaging families, teachers, community members and community partners in the educational process. In general, AmeriCorps member responsibilities include: tutoring and mentoring, program documentation, upholding program standards, volunteer recruitment, assisting with training volunteers and participation in leadership development trainings.

Each AIMS HIGH school has a single full time Lead AmeriCorps member. Lead members in the AIMS HIGH program play a critical role as the daily point of contact with school teachers, administrators, and AIMS HIGH program staff. While also providing direct service with students, lead members are peer leaders through helping to coordinate other members, programs and activities at their school site. They also support new members through orientation to school and provide guidance to other members throughout their service.
