Bereavement Volunteer Support Group Facilitator serves on a team composed of other volunteers, students and program staff of Supporting Kidds. Supporting Kidds is a subsidiary of Children & Families First. The Facilitator is responsible for working with a co-facilitator to lead support group meetings for children who have experienced grief and loss. Trained volunteer facilitators work with families one night per week during support group sessions. Group runs in two cycles, fall and spring one evening per week for 10 weeks. Seeking Volunteers who are willing to commit to both cycles.
The responsibilities include:
Preparing for group meetings, introducing activities, assisting group members to participate, clean and organize materials used in group meetings, as well as group rooms as well.
Meet briefly with co-facilitator each night after group ends to reflect on the night’s activities.
Engage in learning activities beyond the training program in order to maintain skills and increase knowledge regarding working with bereaved families.
As interest and conditions permit, participate in other activities related to working with bereaved families and/or related to supporting the work of Supporting Kidds.
Requires a High School diploma or GED, ability to work on a team and take direction, flexibility and a comfort in addressing difficulty issues related to grief and loss.
Group runs in two cycles, fall and spring one evening per week for six weeks. Hours per session 35 hours per session.
