Heartland Hospice's program utilizes a team approach to meet the physical, social and spiritual needs of our patients and their families. This team includes the medical director, attending physician, nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, spiritual counselors, bereavement counselors and volunteers.
Volunteers are the heart of the hospice team. We depend on our hospice volunteers to help us provide the extra love and care our patients and their families need at this time in their life.
Volunteers offer support, companionship and practical, compassionate help to this special group of people. Whether it is running errands, staying with the patient so family members can take a break, reading to a patient or holding their hand, the help and support our volunteers give is returned to them in countless ways.
As a Heartland Hospice volunteer, you can donate as much or as little of your time as you desire. The duties of our volunteers are varied. Some volunteers work directly with our patients and their families, while others work exclusively "behind the scenes". This flexibility allows you to find an area or service that is uniquely suited to you as well as provide you with the greatest personal satisfaction.
As a volunteer, you will love the sense of self-satisfaction you will receive from enriching someone's life. And you will enjoy learning from the vast experience and colorful life of our patients and their families. Our volunteers tell us that whenever they volunteer with hospice, they learn new skills and expand their knowledge and experience.
We invite you to join our team as a hospice volunteer. If you are a member of a special interest group (a choir, drama club, garden club, etc.) you may want to volunteer your group for a special project or activity. Become an integral part of the Heartland family by becoming a hospice volunteer.
We have a variety of opportunities available in Somerset, Cambria, and Bedford counties. To find out more about Heartland's Volunteer Program and upcoming trainings please contact us at (814) 443-6450.

Mission Statement
Heartland Hospice is a growing company dedicated to providing compassionate high quality health care. We will achieve this by recruiting professional, caring staff, encouraging patients to become active participants in care, and by creating an atmosphere of supportive leadership. We value strong, mutually beneficial relationships with referral sources, employees, patients and caregiver and community at large.
Description
Hospice is a special kind of care designed to provide sensitivity and support for people in the final phase of terminal illness. Hospice care seeks to enable patients to carry on an alert, pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so that the last days may be spent with dignity and quality at home or in a home-like setting. It is the goal of Heartland Hospice to provide supportive services to meet physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs to the patients and caregivers in the home, health care facilities, or other residential settings. These services will be provided without regard to race, religion, gender, creed, sex or ability to pay.
