About

Join Easterseals Respite Services to give parents a much-needed temporary break from day-to-day caregiving duties. We work with military & civilian families who have children with & without disabilities as well as "little warriors"- children whose parents have been injured in war.

The Fun You Will Have:

As a volunteer, you will spend the day paired 1:1 with a child to assist them in activities, ensure their safety, and provide them with one-on-one attention.

We provide fun & educational activities for our volunteers & the children at the Easterseals Inter-Generational Center in downtown Silver Spring one Saturday a month. At these events, the children will be able to unleash their imagination in a world of hands-on discovery with painting, drawing, sculpting, and other creative activities.

These respite services are a wonderful event for everyone involved! You and the child you’re matched with for the day will have a fabulous time & enjoy all the fun activities. You can feel like a kid again! Lunch and snacks are included.

Volunteer Benefits!

  • Build a friendship with your "matched" child for the day
  • Join a team of volunteers with similar interests
  • Attend fun & educational respite activities with other volunteers & children
  • Improve physical & mental health
  • Great for groups/businesses who want to give back
  • Make a lasting impact on a family, child, & community

We hope to see you at the next event!

Please note the following:

  • COVID-19 policies and procedures are in the process of being developed. It is likely that COVID-19 vaccines, and proof of vaccination, will be required for all volunteers and age-appropriate children.
  • This date is tentative and will depend on the status of COVID-19 in the community
  • You must complete a background check and screening form and have a confirmation from Brooke Kaiser prior to attending the event.
  • Minimum age requirement is 17 years old. If you have a younger child (14+) who you feel is mature enough to volunteer alongside you, this may be an option.
  • Each child is paired 1:1 with a volunteer to spend the day with. It is imperative that volunteers who RSVP attend the event and stay for its entirety.
