Purpose/Objective: Legacy Corps is an AmeriCorps program that provides assistance to service members, active and veteran, their families and caregivers. Our heroes and their loved ones are served in the fields of respite, transportation, education and resource referral by members who are accepted by AmeriCorps after a rigorous background check and interview process. Services are designed to decrease caregiving burden and stress, and empower the caregiver and care recipient through education and community resources to maintain and/or improve their quality of life, with an emphasis on remaining in the home.
Responsibilities: Provide responsible non-medical care for clients; In-Home Respite Care; Child Care Respite; Supporting and Creating Peer-to-Peer Networks; Caregiver Transitional Services; Transportation Services; Information Dissemination and Public Education
Qualifications: Must be 18 years or older, a U.S. citizen, high school graduate or equivalent, and flexible in availability. Must have a phone, dependable transportation, clean State Criminal Background Check and NSOPR.
Training: 20 hours of pre-service training. Training will include CPR, topics on aging, veteran issues and other relevant materials during monthly training sessions and at military facilities.
Time commitment: Minimum of 450 hours served over 12 month grant year. Monthly meetings are held on the third Saturday of the month.
