VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Health Center Advocacy Volunteer

As a Health Center Advocacy volunteer, you will gain crucial experience in the nonprofit and advocacy fields and be a driving force in Planned Parenthood’s effort to educate patients and health center visitors. You will work inside targeted health center lobbies and/or waiting rooms to educate patients and engage them in advocacy. Specifically, you share current talking points/issue updates and invite visitors to sign the latest petition. You’ll ask if they’d be willing to share their story and also offer a voter registration opportunity.

The Health Center Advocacy Program seeks to establish a support base that accurately reflects the diversity of the varying groups of people who utilize our services and to provide these supporters with a range of ways to get involved in our work. Often, this is the first point of entry for a patient to become a supporter and volunteer. By engaging patients in advocacy we can educate and encourage them to be civically engaged in their community and protect access to health care.

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to quality health care.
  • A desire to educate and mobilize individuals around health issues through community engagement.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Comfortable speaking to strangers on behalf of Planned Parenthood.
  • Comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and racial diversity.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strict adherence to our patient privacy policy.

We ask that applicants commit to a minimum of 10 weeks and at least 2 to 4 hours per week. Shifts will be regular, yet flexible, during health center hours.

Volunteers must complete the volunteer application and criminal history disclosure form, complete an interview, and successfully pass a background check and reference checks before starting. There is a mandatory 3 hour orientation for new volunteers.
