ORGANIZATION: AccentCare Fairview Hospice-Bloomington

Visit hospice patients at nursing homes or assisted living facilities throughout the Twin Cities. Visits may involve:

  • Talking
  • Reading to the patient
  • Taking the patient for a walk
  • Providing hand massage
  • Playing a game with a patient
  • Being a caring presence

Hospice provides end of life care to patients. The care is focused on comfort and quality of life. Visits are generally 30 minutes-1 hour per patient. You can see one patient or multiple patients at the same facility.

You do not need to have medical experience. We will train you in everything you need to know. You just need a desire to help and comfort with meeting new people.

When life expectancy is limited, Accentcare Fairview Hospice staff and volunteers will help patients and caregivers focus on improving the quality of their remaining days. Hospice provides medical, emotional, social and spiritual care. We bring these services to the familiar setting of patient's own homes whenever possible. The same kind of care may also be given at a long-term care site, a group home, an assisted living site or a residential hospice.
