SPECIAL EVENT PLANNING TEAM MEMBERS

Be part of the excitement of a dinner and auction fun night to benefit orphans and very poor villagers in remote Tanzania, Africa! Each year the Songea Soiree in the greater Seattle area raises funds to provide basic needs, education and health care to vulnerable children and youth, plus teach them entrepreneurship and sustainability skills, giving them hope for their future. Visit www.songaskids.org or the Songea’s Kids FaceBook page for more information about our accomplishments.

Each year our event, featuring speakers from Africa, dinner and a fun auction, grows in attendees and donations to make our projects possible. The 2017 Songea Soiree will be November 4, 2017 at the Redmond Senior Center. Creative volunteers like you are invited to choose from 5 planning teams and offer your skills, creativity and enthusiasm to help these vulnerable children. We will communicate by email, and teams may meet once a month in the Issaquah/Sammamish area for planning meetings.

Description

Songea's Kids is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization founded in 2007 that is dedicated to building hope and transforming the lives of orphans, vulnerable children and their communities in southern Tanzania by providing nurturing homes, clean water, food, clothing, health care and education. We have two programs designed to address both immediate and long-term needs. Our Child Sponsorship Program pairs USA sponsors with a child in urgent need of care, utilizing a foster care approach to meet basic needs and education. We make it possible for each child to reach his or her potential through educational programs that will provide them with the knowledge, skills and abilities to support themselves when they become adults.

Our second program addresses the longer-term needs of orphans and vulnerable children. We work with our Tanzanian NGO partner Hope Village Organization to design and construct Hope Village, a residential orphan haven that will serve 190 of the most vulnerable children, including abandoned babies and street children. Hope Village is rapidly becoming a thriving community center, with a health care dispensary, a masonry vocational training classroom, and deep water wells already constructed and serving the community. We have constructed the first orphan home, and are opening the first dental clinic in the area, both of which are expected to open in early 2024 and will be followed by a second orphan home, a pre-primary school, and several additional vocational training classrooms.
