A-OK Mentoring-Tutoring, Inc., is an official partner of the Howard County Public Schools that recruits, screens, trains, and oversees volunteers who mentor and tutor students in County elementary and middle schools. The organization's mission is to enhance the successful academic and social development of individual Howard County Public School students through the encouraging, ongoing support of an adult mentor-tutor.
Students are selected because they are struggling to succeed and can benefit from extra adult attention. They may need improvement in one or more of the following: academics, behaviors, social skills, and/or self-image. Some students are dealing with specific stressful situations.
Volunteers provide consistent visits with an assigned student during the school day for the entire school year .
Volunteer mentor-tutors can be assigned to one student or can provide support to students in an afterschool program.
