Africa Agenda wants to take its mission further. In 2019 we have several programs planned which include a quarterly bloggers conference, the launch of a critical news analysis website, an Africa summit in Denver and student internships.

To support this mission:

The editor will edit all incoming content for clarity and provide focus to comply with the organization's mission. We are looking for someone who is innovative, passionate about the African continent, and can lead a newsroom. The editor will be required to attend/lead weekly editorial meetings on Tuesdays, from 5 to 6 p.m. at our office inside the Posner Center in Denver. Typical editorial duties include writing headlines, developing storyboards, fact checking, liaising with writers, helping put stories in context, and provide substantive feedback to Africa Agenda contributors. Applicants should have familiarity, if not, have an interest in the broader issues related to the delivery of the news in the age of social media. Knowledge of WordPress or CMS would be helpful. Mission Statement

Africa Agenda is driven by the need to change the one-sided narrative of African News. We use the Africa Agenda website, journalistic tools, and events, including the Africa News Matters website, as platforms for critical engagement and news analysis about the African continent.

Description

Founded in 2004 by George Bamu, Africa Agenda is a small non-profit based in Denver that seeks to change the narrative of African news. The organization believes the one-sided pattern of journalistic reporting about Africa needs to be counterbalanced so every gets a full picture about the continent. Africa Agenda activities involve journalism and news training, an annual Africa summit in Denver, the celebration of World Press Freedom Day, a "Best in Africa Reporting Awards" as well as critical news analysis about the continent. Even with limited resources the organization has had many successes since 2004 such as working across the Denver metro area with hundreds of volunteers, many of the local universities, Africa-oriented networks, African leaders and organizations, and organized dozens of forums highlighting the beneficial activities by and issues of interest to the global African community.
