ORGANIZATION: L.A. Works

Los Angeles High School of the Arts (LAHSA) at the RFK Community Schools Complex is located in the heart of Koreatown. LAHSA serves 410 students, many who come from first generation immigrant families of Latino and/or Korean descent.

Program Description: LASHA’s mentoring program utilizes the arts to develop trusting relationships between mentors and mentees with the goal of empowering our youth. Our mentorship program creates an atmosphere where youth can learn and discuss mental health issues impacting their lives as well as various social justice issues in a unique and artistic way.

Volunteer Role & Responsibilities: Volunteers are needed to serve twice a month on a set calendar as mentors for at low income high school students. One meeting each month will be a "Group" session", the other session will be a 'One-on-One'.

Time Commitment: Programs will meet twice a month for 10 months on Wednesdays or Thursdays from 10:45 - 12:30. Group sessions will last 2 hours and one on one sessions will last 1 hour. In total mentors will spend about 4 hours/ month communicating with their mentees.

Requirements: Volunteers must be 20 years of age. Interviews and background checks will be conducted (Live Scan with the chance of partial reimbursement at the end of the program). All mentors must attend a mentor training. Reliability and follow through are a must. * We conduct interviews and background checks to ensure the safety of our youth.
