Project HIRED is looking for an intern in the Communications field who can be a part of our exciting journey and gain practical work experience in a collaborative environment.

Project HIRED is Northern California’s premier provider of job search, training and placement services for adults with disabilities who desire to enter or re-enter the workforce. Founded in 1978, Project HIRED was created with the commitment to empower individuals with disabilities to become independent job seekers and to focus on ability. Project HIRED continues to assist thousands of individuals find and maintain meaningful employment through an array of employment services designed to promote self-sufficiency and independence, remove barriers, create opportunities, and help job seekers build successful careers.

Job Summary:

This is a great opportunity to learn more about communications and working in a human services environment. We are looking for a bright, energetic individual who is willing to roll up their sleeves with the flexibility to work on a wide array of projects. The Communications Intern will support the Fund Development and Administrative Supervisor's goals of managing messaging, outreach/sourcing, overall positioning, branding, and communications within the company, both internally and externally.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the creation and implementation of internal and external communications
  • Help develop the day-to-day communication deliverables including but not limited to announcements, presentation briefing materials, email messages and special writing assignments
  • Manage all social media activities
  • Work with other team members to support specific projects
  • Assist with outreach, job matching and sourcing of clients
  • Perform other work related duties, as assigned

What you need to Succeed:

  • Pursuing BS/BA at an accredited college or university preferred
  • Ability to analyze information, draw conclusions, and effectively present conclusions and recommendations
  • Strong writing, editing and verbal communications skills (Knowledge of AP style guide a plus)
  • Strong interest in Communications, Advertising or Human Services
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in a dynamic environment

Description

Project HIRED is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, community-based organization that was established in 1978 and headquartered in San Jose, CA to create and expand competitive and integrated job and career opportunities for individuals with disabilities.. With a mission "to assist individuals with disabilities to gain and to sustain employment," Project HIRED serves a wide range of type and severity of disability, including individuals with physical and mental impairments, chronic illnesses, and learning disabilities, with at least 50% of the participants having significant disabilities. An emphasis is placed on targeting minority groups and those unemployed or underemployed. Participants possess an array of skills and seek employment in a variety of industries.

Project HIRED offers a wide variety of job placement services on an individual basis and in workshops. In addition to job development, Project HIRED provides employment opportunities as Call Center Operators at Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Palo Alto, San Francisco, and Fresno, CA through the AbilityOne program. This program is specifically designed to provide an opportunity for job seekers with significant disabilities to return to and enter into the workforce. In addition, Project HIRED offers the Wounded Warrior Workforce program, created in 2010 to assist wounded, ill, and injured Veterans in their transition to the civilian workforce.
