Two Bridges Fresh Food Box 2015

Two Bridges is looking for volunteers to work with us and provide support for our seasonal Fresh Food Box Program that we run in collaboration with GrowNYC. Greenmarket Co., GrowNYC’s local food aggregation and distribution program, powers innovative programs that make fresh and healthy local food accessible to underserved families and communities. The Fresh Food Box program allows individuals to purchase mixed boxes of affordable, seasonal produce from local farms on a week-to-week basis and pick them up at a community distribution point, providing the convenience and quality of a CSA without the season-long commitment.

Volunteers are needed every Thursday from 3PM-7PM (hours can be flexible if you can't stay the entire duration) to help with set up, distribution and clean up. The program is scheduled to run from July-November. We'll work with you if you can't commit to the entire 5 months!

About Two Bridges Neighborhood Council

Location:

275 CHERRY ST GROUND FL OFFICE, NEW YORK, NY 10002, US

Mission Statement

Two Bridges Neighborhood Council has been dedicated to serving the many neighborhoods of Manhattan's Lower East Side since 1955. We create equitable housing, celebrate cultural diversity through neighborhood-based programs, and work together with local residents, businesses, entrepreneurs, and leaders to stimulate and maintain economic vitality.

Description

Two Bridges serves the residential, commercial, and cultural life of Manhattan’s Lower East Side through community-based programs and strategic partnerships. Our service area includes the economically, culturally, and ethnically diverse neighborhoods of Two Bridges, Chinatown, Little Italy, the East Village, and the Bowery Corridor.

As it has for over a century-and-a half of immigration, the demographic composition of the Lower East Side varies widely across all neighborhoods. In spite of the recent wave of gentrification transforming many parts of the Lower East Side, tens of thousands of working-class and low- to moderate-income individuals and families--many with deep roots in the neighborhood, and others just arriving--still call the Lower East Side home. Two Bridges serves the community by creating affordable housing, advocating for improvements related to quality of life, providing access to social services, education and recreation programs, providing access to technology, and engaging residents in the public, political and planning processes that impact the community in which they live and work.
