Volunteer needed to help build website
A community-based development organization based in Uganda needs help rebuilding their website. A volunteer would work directly with our partner organization, communicating by email and possibly skype to do the following: - help the organization articulate their top goals for their website - research best practices in nonprofit websites and advise our team - select an easy-to-manage platform (Wordpress, Wix, Weebly, etc) to be determined by you and our partner - outline and help generate content as needed to build a simple website of around 20 pages - train our local partner in ongoing management/use (no coding or technical knowledge should be necessary to maintain) - help secure domain name registration and hosting

Skills necessary: - patience and flexibility - you must be able to collaborate with and support our partner organization - ability to work independently and set goals/timeline, maintaining progress on those goals without close supervision - maintain availability and responsiveness to our community partner - be available to communicate with them as needed - experience with building simple websites is desired, but not required This is a great opportunity for someone interested in gaining experience or building a web-design portfolio, or for anyone interested is supporting a grassroots development organization doing great work in rural Uganda. Interested volunteers please contact tara (at) mingafoundation (dot) org with a description of your interest and experience. Thank you!

Mission Statement

The Minga Foundation partners with individuals and community-based organizations in underserved communities to improve socioeconomic conditions and health equity. Through collaborative and respectful partnerships, we build capacity, create and strengthen networks, and provide resources based on locally-identified needs. Our goal is to empower those seeking a healthier future for their communities.

Description

We envision a world where all communities are able to improve their own health and wellbeing.

Consistent with our goal to empower those seeking a healthier future for their communities, all of our work is directed by our partners. Our role is to facilitate their efforts, which we do by building capacity and networks, providing resources and collaborating with all stakeholders. We aim to facilitate processes that are community-owned, transparent, sensitive to local culture, and give voice to those who have been marginalized, including women and children.

In the short-term, we aim for outcomes that include community-owned projects, broadened capacity, higher levels of capital and greater self-efficacy. Through this work, our broader, long term goal is to improve community and family health, increase health equity and empower families and communities.
