Join our Gallery Manager and fellow volunteers to participate in the installation of our monthly exhibitions. To get a sense of our shows, visit http://www.pacificartleague.org/current-exhibit/.

This monthly volunteering day offers the gallery’s best opportunity to get behind the scenes and learn about how an art exhibition comes together. We start the morning with a close look at the newly delivered artworks. Learn from the Gallery Manager about initial steps to lay out and exhibition, and share your observations and ideas to create walls with strong visual communication to draw visitors through. We collaboratively lay out the show, discovering compelling associations between pieces in a variety of media by regional artists.

As the layout emerges, volunteers apply their installation skills to hang two-dimensional works. Training is provided, and basic math skills are all you need to learn to hang artwork with proper height and spacing. We spackle and paint the walls, then get to work on installation. Volunteers are encouraged to ask questions, freely take coffee and lunch breaks, and become a part of the exhibition that will be unveiled at our First Friday reception.

About Pacific Art League

Mission Statement

The Pacific Art League's mission is to expression, appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts. Since 1921, the Pacific Art League has been a gathering place and source of inspiration and instruction in fine arts. Founded as "The Palo Alto Art Club," we created a valuable addition to the San Francisco Peninsula's cultural life.

Description

We are a membership organization, guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, and managed by a staff of professionals. We are assisted by many Volunteer Leaders who bring expertise and dedication to a wide variety of projects.

The Pacific Art League is an inviting place for anyone who wants to create art. Nearly two-thirds of our members describe themselves as amateur or student artists. Members frequently comment that the Art League is more than just a place to exhibit art and take classes. Rather, it is a community of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and skills who come together to express themselves through art.

The Pacific Art League has provided opportunities for participation in the visual arts for more than 80 years. The League was founded as the Palo Alto Art Club in 1921 by a widely talented group of people who recognized a need to meet other artists, to work together and discuss and critique each others' works. We have grown into an organization that provides classes and kids camps, opportunities for artists as well as outreach programs to other community organizations to provide art experiences for those in special circumstances.
