About

The NOVA Student and Family Resource Center provides support to the college community by helping students and their families identify resources and services to assist with academic and non-academic challenges. The center is located at NOVA’s satellite location at 7630 Little River Turnpike, with mobile services available at all NOVA campuses. The center offers a variety of services to the NOVA community, including resources for parenting students, workshops and drop-in programs focusing on topics such as financial management, assistance in identifying resources both on and off campus, and referrals to community agencies and programs (including employment resources). Additionally, the center hosts programming for students and families, including Parenting Student Club meetings, tutoring for students and their children, and workshops.

Volunteer Position Description

Assist NOVA staff with center operations: help students and families with locating college and community resources; help collect, organize, and display print resources; provide support during programming and events; perform research to gather new resources

Volunteers with special skills/prior experience with tutoring, mentoring, financial literacy, education, human services, etc. may also assist in facilitating workshops and providing direct assistance to students and families.

Good Match

Friendly, outgoing, and patient; strong communication and organizational skills; comfortable working with very diverse populations; ability to locate information using print and online resources; passion for helping others and giving back to the community; prior experience in education, social/human services career fields a plus (excellent opportunity for retirees)
