Volunteer Park Trust (VPT) was founded in 2012 by friends and neighbors to restore, protect and preserve Seattle's city and national landmark Volunteer Park for today and for generations to come.
We are seeking two types of volunteers to join our Landscape Committee:
- Gardeners: Anyone with a love of gardening to help us clean and maintain the garden beds in Volunteer Park at our monthly work parties, twice-annual major stewardship events, and occasional special events partnering with non-profits, schools and businesses. No experience necessary and we provide gloves and tools.
- Leadership: Individuals with formal experience/training in horticulture, landscape maintenance, historic landscape restoration, or Olmsted Brothers design principles, to lead and train volunteers, and help guide decision making about the park landscape.
Working in collaboration with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department, our Landscape Committee determines targets for landscape restoration and maintenance in Volunteer Park. They plan for the restoration of targeted areas to reclaim the park's historic beauty and integrity. They oversee planting and maintenance of restored areas.
In conjunction with the VPT Development and Events Committees, Landscape Committee members develop and conduct educational tours for donors and the public. They provide input and guidance to the Capitol Projects Committee on issues related to the park's historic Olmsted Brothers' design legacy.
DATES/TIMES: Work parties are held the second Saturday of every month from 10-Noon in Seattle's Volunteer Park. Larger restoration events occur each spring and fall, attracting 40-100 people. Our committee meetings are held informally at the monthly work parties.
