ORGANIZATION: Maine Responds
Please visit the new page to apply.
DISASTER PERSONAL CARE ASSISTANTS are state volunteers, who support the sick, injured, mentally or physically disabled, or the elderly and fragile in a shelter setting during a disaster. When people arrive at a locally run, Red Cross or State of Maine sponsored shelter for displaced disaster survivors often there is a need for personal care assistants to help with daily activities, such as bathing and bathroom functions, feeding, grooming, taking medication, etc.
Just-In-Time training is available for those interested who are inexperienced.

Mission Statement
Maine Responds coordinates verified, pre-credentialed public health, healthcare and emergency response volunteers into a single state-managed database that can coordinate the need for volunteers across county, regional, and state lines.
Description
Maine Responds is a partnership that integrates local, regional, and statewide volunteer resources to assist our public health and healthcare systems. It is part of a national initiative--the Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals or "ESAR-VHP"--to train, coordinate, and mobilize volunteers during an emergency.
Registering as a Maine Responds volunteer will help ensure that people affected by a disaster will receive the public health and medical care they need. Registration is the first step in meeting this urgent need within Maine and the nation.
Maine Responds (maineresponds.org) allows you to register as "willing to provide services during a disaster or emergency situation" (while being protected under state liability and workers comp protection). The registration system will collect basic information about volunteers and their professional skills.
