Visitor Services volunteers greet visitors to the museum’s gallery and oversee the exhibition objects and environment during both museum public hours and special events. We are looking for people who are outgoing and friendly, team-oriented, and flexible, and have an interest in the visual arts. Shifts range from 3-6 hours in length, mostly during open gallery hours (Thursday, 11-6; Friday, 11-6, Saturday, 10-4; Sunday, 10-4).
The commitment of a Visitor Services volunteer is 2 shifts a month, varying with museum schedule. Other opportunities, related to marketing, fundraising or collections, may arise, based on staff needs, individual interests and experience.
Interest in art a must. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively and easily with guests, enjoy talking about art and a willingness to learn about each exhibition, about 4-5 exhibitions a year. Must enjoy interacting with the public. No experience necessary.
Please fill out an application at https://www.shiftboard.com/MMAA/register.html.

Mission Statement
To explore American identities and experiences through art and creativity.
Description
The Minnesota Museum of American Art (MMAA) was founded as the St. Paul School of Fine Arts in 1894, and formally incorporated in 1927, when it began collecting works of art for instructional purposes. The museum's current collection contains 4,000 works of art by local, regional and nationally known artists, reflecting its focus on national and regional art and the changing nature of the American experience as seen through the visual arts. In October 2012, MMAA opened a new gallery in the Pioneer Endicott Building-the MMAA Project Space-which has taken the museum a step closer to its goal of a permanent home in downtown St. Paul.
As St. Paul’s only visual arts museum, MMAA produces the highest-quality visual arts experiences for our community by presenting thoughtful exhibitions, arts education programming, opportunities for artists to grow their audiences, and facilitating arts access through outreach initiatives into diverse communities.
