Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities for SNAP Application Assistant

Job Description: Provide SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) application assistance and outreach at various locations within the community, available for a commitment of 6 months or longer volunteer time.

Provides valuable nutrition assistance and information to those in need.

  • Conduct application assistance and outreach work at SET Family Medical Clinics partner agency sites
  • Provide educational information and support to individuals about SNAP benefits along with other available food resources

* Stay informed about SNAP changes and updates

* Track all completed SNAP applications and client contacts (assistance)

  • Submit all confidentiality forms to SNAP Analyst at SET Family Medical Clinics along with total weekly numbers of client contacts/ both assisted and applications by COB on Friday of each week

Qualifications

* Basic computer knowledge

* Must have reliable transportation

* Experience working with people from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds

* Excellent communication skills

* Basic understanding of government assistance programs

* Complete Volunteer Orientation and application (1 hour)

* Complete SNAP Training (2 hours)

* Shadow/Observe SNAP Analyst for 2 hours minimum

Description

How Does SET Serve The Community?

SET Family Medical Clinic at St. Francis Health Center--This medical clinic provides basic, affordable medical care for the low-income and uninsured of the Pikes Peak Region. SET has a full-time staff from Monday through Friday, 8 - 5pm. (Some evening clinics available, call for appointment).

SET Homeless Clinic at 14 W. Bijou-The homeless and very low-income receive basic medical care Monday thru Friday 11:30-1:00. SET also conducts a sock exchange and provides toiletry items such as soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant, and toothpaste/toothbrushes to the clients.
