We need your assistance to help those with KanCare/Medicaid get their questions answered and issues resolved! Volunteer with us, and learn valuable skills that you can put to use in helping your community.
The KanCare Ombudsman's Volunteer Office will be located in two new locations:
- Mid-America Alliance for Access (Coalition for Independence) in Kansas City, KS
- Catholic Charities Office in Olathe, KS
To become a volunteer, please complete:

- The background check
Once we receive your completed forms, our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you for an interview.
Volunteer Schedule & Location:
Next we will work with you in scheduling and location. You may donate as few as 3 hours per week or as many as 15. Both volunteer offices will be open from 10 a.m - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Free Training
Once you are on board, your training (at no cost to you) will begin. Complete training will consist of the following: In-person (class and hands-on), Shadowing (working directly with an experienced staff member), and online continuing education. The competencies include but are not limited to the following topics:
Medicaid history and agencies, federal to state
Processes- applications, benefits, and claims
Resources for beneficiaries
Handling of calls and levels of inquiries
Appeals, Grievances, and State Fair Hearings
Practice cases and case studies

To support KanCare/Medicaid members in navigating the Medicaid system and to resolve problems regarding services, coverage, access and rights.
Description
The KanCare Ombudsman's Office was created when Medicaid was changed to KanCare in 2013. The KanCare Ombudsman helps KanCare members /Medicaid consumers with concerns about getting services they need through KanCare. The KanCare Ombudsman Volunteer Program is designed to assist the Ombudsman in serving KanCare members regarding their services, coverage, access and rights. The program began in the Wichita area (Sedgwick County) in 2015, and will begin in the Kansas City Metro area including Wyandotte County and Johnson County in 2016.
