TLC's international volunteer program has been running since 1993, receiving people from almost every continent. Our program is definitely not for the faint-hearted and requires volunteers to be completely committed to giving the best of themselves to the care of our children. We take volunteers because we NEED them. Our volunteer team works both day and nights shifts with the little ones and is deeply involved in the day to day work of our project.
Located on a small farm we also contribute to the local informal community through the sharing of our resources, including the hands of our volunteers wherever possible. As a family project, many of Thea's 24 children (both adopted and biological) work and live at TLC in an endeavor to create a better future for every little one that comes through TLC's doors. It has taken many hands to create our legacy and it will continue to need more, perhaps yours?
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.

1. To provide a refuge and holistic care for any abandoned, neglected, orphaned, abused or needy baby or child placed in its care; 2. To endeavor to find, as soon as practically possible, a permanent family home for each such baby or child. 3. To raise awareness amongst the general public on the plight of such children in South Africa; 4. Skills development of care workers by training them in the care of babies and children in its care; 5. To Network and co-operate with other similar organizations to the benefit of children in its care; 6. To encourage and educate South Africans on local adoptions, foster care and other placement options with the aim of placing more TLC children in South African families; 7. To strive to find unique and individual solutions to the needs of each child placed in its care.
Founded as a family-run organisation, at the dawn of South African democracy in 1993, TLC Children's Home is now a board governed and registered Not-For-Profit Child and Youth Care Center (CYCC) with the Department of Social Development. Our purpose is to provide quality care and nurture to the vulnerable babies and children that are welcomed into our home. We undertake to care for and nurture these babies and children on a full-time basis, within a family-modeled, homely environment, whilst painstakingly pursing their rapid, responsible placement into loving forever families of their own.
Our motivation and conviction is that every child has the right to a loving, caring family and that no child should be left in an orphanage. At present TLC cares for up to 35 babies all of which come to us under the age of 3 years upon admission.
Since our inception in 1993, over 900 babies have come to our home. We believe that by providing quality, attachment based care to the little ones in our home and placing them into loving, permanent families, we will see the long-term benefits of providing a quality upbringing to these vulnerable children of our nation.
