Ocean Threats

Aquatopia, Inc., a new 501 (c) 3 is in search of teachers/educators to volunteer their time and talents to present various marine & ocean programming to individuals within our community.

The first program we hope to get off the ground is an Ocean Debris Clean-up Program. With the increasing use of plastic, human influence has become an issue as many types of plastics do not biodegrade. Waterborne plastic poses a serious threat to fish, seabirds, marine reptiles, and marine mammals, as well as to boats and coasts. Dumping, container spillages, litter washed into storm drains and waterways and wind-blown landfill waste all contribute to this problem. Aquatopia prides itself in educating and keeping the world’s Oceans and Beaches clean.

It is our hope to recruit a team of volunteers who will regularly conduct beach and waterway clean-ups around the central Florida region. This will be an on-going effort. Curriculum is in place that can be modified for the age of the volunteers participating in the clean-up efforts that day.

If you are interested in joining a team of Aquatopians to make the oceans a better place, please notify us. Success is within our reach! For more information on Aquatopia please visit www.aquatopia.org or our FB page at ww.facebook.com/aquatopians
