TUTOR NEEDED

Sacramento ESL Program (SESL) provides English classes to speakers of other languages (ESL=English as a Second Language) from all over the world. We have been using tutors and teachers' aides to help a multi-level ESL class and have found that they are making a huge difference in our students' learning.

Would you be interested in working one to two evenings per week helping out as a tutor (5:30 - 6:30 pm) or as a teacher's aide (6:30 - 9:00 pm) once or twice a week? You do not need to be bilingual to be successful, and we provide an excellent training program organized by seasoned ESL teachers. This will be provided several weeks in advance so you will feel comfortable when you start. You will find that students are extremely grateful for what we give them and this provides all of us with instant gratification every time we work with them!

Please email us your name, email, phone number(s), some information about your experience, and tell us why you would like to help students like this!

About SACRAMENTO ESL PROGRAM

Location:

C/O Fruit Ridge Community Collaborative, 4625 44th Street, Ste. 12, SACRAMENTO, CA 95820, US

Mission Statement

Sacramento ESL Program, in collaboration with the community of the Greater Sacramento area, provides adults whose native tongue is not English instruction, resources, technology, opportunities, and tools in an encouraging, positive learning environment where they have the opportunity to acquire necessary basic skills in reading, speaking, and writing English and listening skills and to be empowered to participate more fully in the daily tasks and responsibilities of life in the US. We also provide our adult students with literacy and numeracy skills, skills necessary to become employable, write resumes and other job seeker documents, acquire interview skills, etc. A goal for the future is to provide computer classes where our adult students will be able to learn and improve skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and email as well as specific, basic skills that will help them become job ready and employable.

Description

Founded in 2012 Sacramento ESL Program (SESL) has been slowly growing ever since. In September 2015, we entered into a partnership with Fruit Ridge Community Collaborative in an area of South Sacramento designated a Ground Zero Promise Zone by President Obama where we now have technological capabilities, storage space, and our own furniture for teachers and students. We are holding evening classes there in Beginning to Intermediate Low levels. SESL provides more than 8 hours of ESL instruction per week to adults from all over the world, including Asia, Europe, Africa, and Central and South America. We are looking to expand our program and are seeking volunteers with experience and vision in specific areas of business development and strategy planning.
