Class productions

The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts is the largest independent acting school in DC. Among our offerings are classes that end in full productions, and we rely on volunteers to help staff the shows. Volunteers will assist the box office manager, serve as ushers, and sell concessions, and get free admission to the performance.

Our summer programming includes our award-winning teen acting institutes, each of which ends with a full performance. We have two teen productions remaining this summer:

Children of Eden: August 17-19 (2pm matinee and evening show on August 19)

Macbeth: August 18

Mission Statement

The Theatre Lab is dedicated to making the artistic and real-life benefits of dramatic arts education accessible to everyone--not just those who can afford it or choose to seek it out. Our programs produce professional actors and other theatre artists and provide life-changing opportunities for dramatic self-expression to people whom the arts rarely reach. Our diverse student population includes senior citizens, disadvantaged adults and children, incarcerated teens, and youth who are at high risk for criminal activity and/or victimization.

Description

The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts (TTL) was founded in 1992 and has grown to become the largest and most comprehensive theatre education program in Washington, DC, providing both the artistic and real-life benefits of quality theatre education to more than 1,000 youth and adults each year. TTL offers a core curriculum of more than fifty classes in acting, playwriting, directing, musical theatre and drama criticism, all taught by a distinguished rotating faculty of more than 40 professional actors, directors and educators. TTL's adult curriculum includes a multitude of six-week course sessions, seminars, private coaching and master classes. Youth programs for children and teens include school year holiday break camps for kids, summer acting and musical theatre camps and institutes for kids and teens, and TTL's award-winning Life Stories outreach initiative, which serves incarcerated and at-risk youth, as well as marginalized adult and senior populations. TTL is committed to providing theatre education that is exceptional, affordable and accessible to all; to providing generous need-based scholarships and work-study grants that encourage community participation that is not socio-economically restricted; and to providing outreach services to traditionally underserved and at-risk youth, adult, and senior populations.
