DESCRIPTION:

  • The Mentor provides academic tutoring to children residing in our transitional housing development and shelter, to encourage students’ academic and professional development. Mentors and students will be matched by CFVC staff according to the mentor’s skill level and the age of the students needing tutoring. Mentors may be required to complete a brief training and background check through Children’s Restoration Network prior to being accepted as a mentor. Training takes place at a variety of locations through Children’s Restoration Network and Academic Mentoring takes place in Canton, Georgia on a weekly basis while school is in session.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tutor and homework help with children during meeting times
  • Clean up area after tutoring
  • Discuss progress with student and parent
  • Effectively communicate with Children’s Restoration Network and CFVC
  • Adhere to Confidentiality Policy

SKILLS/TRAITS NEEDED:

The Cherokee Family Violence Center is a registered, non-profit agency in Canton, Georgia, that has been providing services to victims of domestic violence and their children since 1984. CFVC has fought for victims for over 30 years by providing around-the-clock emergency assistance, offering safety and support and engaging in educating the public through outreach and legal advocacy.
