ORGANIZATION: Prevention Resource Center

Red Feather Development Group is a non-profit organization that empowers Native American communities to be self-sustaining to ensure safe and healthy homes for all who live on the Native American reservations. Red Feather’s goal is to strengthen the capacity of tribal communities to improve housing conditions and to reduce housing related health disparities by offering place-based, hands-on courses and workshops.

The VISTA will work closely with the Director of Education to form partnerships in the community and identify the appropriate protections, language, methodology and data measures to build a housing survey that will assess housing needs for low-income individuals on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. The VISTA will evaluate the classroom assessments generated with partners, stakeholders, advisors, students, and other community members after workshops are conducted. The VISTA will also recruit and train volunteers to lead home repair workshops on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. Ultimately, the VISTA will be a key player in developing housing solutions that will improve the health and wellbeing of families which is vital to alleviating and preventing poverty. *A privately owned vehicle is recommended for this service assignment.
